Japan in Seasons is a free map of seasonal forecasts for Japan. It also has a public API and an MCP server for AI assistants. Koo Haoming runs it as an individual in Singapore. There are no accounts or sign-up forms. There are no cookies or ad trackers either.
What we collect
- Your IP address, which our server sees on every request.
- A session ID when an AI assistant connects to the MCP server.
- The name of each MCP tool that gets called, such as
sakura_forecast.
The questions, dates and regions you send to a tool are used to answer that request. We do not store them.
"Near Me" uses your location inside your browser to find spots within 30 km. Your location is never sent to us or anyone else. The map also caches forecast data in your browser's local storage for an hour. That cache holds forecasts only.
Why
- We use your IP address to limit each visitor to 60 requests a minute. This keeps the free service up for everyone.
- We also count how many different visitors use the site each day. To do that we keep a scrambled (salted hash) version of each IP address. Only the daily total is shown, on the status page.
- Session IDs keep an AI assistant connected. Tool names tell us which tools people use.
We do not sell your data or use it for marketing.
Who sees it
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site and sees every request. Cloudflare Web Analytics: cookieless, aggregate page views, no input capture.
- Railway hosts our server. Railway keeps its own request logs under its own policy.
- unpkg sends your browser the map library.
- OpenStreetMap Germany sends your browser the map images. It sees which part of the map you are viewing.
- GSI, Japan's mapping agency, looks up the city when you open a spot. It gets that spot's coordinates. It never gets yours.
Each of these services sees your IP address. Some are outside Singapore, including in Germany and Japan. Our server fetches forecast and weather data on its own. Those data providers never see you.
How long
- Rate-limit entries live in server memory and are gone within about five minutes.
- The scrambled IP list is deleted at the end of each day (UTC) and whenever the server restarts. It is never written to disk.
- MCP sessions end after 10 idle minutes.
- Tool-call totals reset when the server restarts.
Your choices
You can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent. Since we keep so little and only briefly, there is usually nothing left to find. We will still answer you. You can also clear the forecast cache in your browser settings, or simply stop using the site.
Forecasts come from third parties and may be wrong or out of date. Check official sources before you travel.
